SLT Hair Salon had the reputation, the talent, and the clientele. What they needed was for more people in Houston to find them first when searching for a luxury hair salon. We optimised their Google Business Profile, built a local SEO and AEO foundation, and introduced a systematic review generation strategy that compounds week on week. Four months in, every number is moving up.
About SLT Hair Salon
SLT Hair Salon is a luxury hair salon in East Downtown Houston, Texas, serving clients across all hair textures and types. The salon is known for its signature silk presses, undetectable extensions, and curly hair care, and has built a strong reputation through genuine client results and a welcoming, professional environment.
With services ranging from blowouts and custom colour to precision cuts and total transformations, SLT serves a clientele that takes their hair seriously. The business runs on appointments, and appointments run on discovery. If a potential client in Houston searches "luxury hair salon near me" or "silk press Houston" and SLT does not appear prominently, that appointment goes to a competitor regardless of how good the work is.
The Opportunity
Hair salons in Houston operate in a densely competitive local search environment. Google searches for hair services in the city are happening tens of thousands of times each month, and the businesses that appear at the top of the local pack, with strong profiles, consistent reviews, and accurate service information, capture the overwhelming majority of that intent.
SLT had the product. The opportunity was visibility. Specifically, three things needed to happen:
- Google Business Profile fully optimised: An incomplete or under-optimised GBP profile leaves ranking signals on the table. Categories, services, photos, opening hours, Q&As, and posts all feed into how Google decides which salons to show and in what order.
- Local search content structured for intent: When someone in Houston types "best silk press near me" or "hair extensions East Downtown Houston," they need to find SLT. That requires content that is structured to match those specific queries, written the way people actually search, not the way a service menu reads.
- A steady, growing stream of fresh reviews: Google's local ranking algorithm weights both the number and recency of reviews. A salon with 200 reviews from two years ago ranks lower than one with 80 reviews arriving consistently every week. Freshness signals activity. Activity signals relevance.
Our Approach
The strategy ran across three tracks simultaneously: optimise the Google Business Profile to its full potential, build local SEO and AEO content that captures high-intent searches, and introduce a review generation system that creates a compounding advantage over time.
1. Google Business Profile Optimisation
A fully completed GBP profile is not just better looking, it ranks higher. We audited every element of SLT's profile and filled the gaps: service categories updated to reflect the specific treatments offered (silk press, extensions, curly hair, colour, blowout), photos added across key service areas, Q&A section populated with the questions potential clients actually ask, business attributes set correctly, and regular GBP posts introduced to keep the profile active in Google's eyes.
Every one of these elements is a ranking signal. Combined, they move a business from appearing occasionally in the local pack to appearing consistently, and appearing higher.
2. Local SEO and AEO for Houston Hair Searches
We mapped the specific search queries that Houston residents use when looking for SLT's services: silk press salons in Houston, hair extensions East Downtown, luxury hair salon near Houston TX, natural hair care Houston. Each of these has different competition, different intent, and requires different content to rank for.
The AEO layer on top of this ensures SLT appears not just in traditional search results but in AI-generated answers. When someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI Overview "where can I get a silk press in Houston," the goal is for SLT to be the recommendation that comes back. That requires content structured to be citable: specific, factual, locally anchored, and formatted so AI engines can extract and repeat it.
3. Review Generation Strategy: 3 to 5 New Reviews Every Week
This is the element that creates compounding advantage over time, and the one that most local businesses leave entirely to chance.
We introduced a simple, consistent system: after every appointment, SLT offers clients a small in-salon incentive to leave a Google review before they leave. The request happens in person, at the moment when the client is most satisfied, seated in the chair looking at their result. The review link is shared directly. The friction is as close to zero as possible.
Appointment Completed
Client is in the chair, result is fresh, satisfaction is at its peak. This is the exact moment to ask.
Offer Plus Direct Link
A small in-salon offer is made and the Google review link is sent directly. Low friction, immediate action.
3 to 5 Reviews Per Week
Fresh reviews arrive weekly. Google sees active signal. Local pack ranking climbs. Cycle repeats and compounds.
Why review recency matters as much as review volume: Google's local ranking algorithm treats a review from last Tuesday differently from a review from last year. Consistent, recent reviews signal that the business is active, that clients are satisfied right now, and that the profile reflects the current reality of the business. A salon generating 3 to 5 fresh reviews every week is building a compounding ranking advantage that a competitor relying on a one-off review push cannot match.
Performance at a Glance
Google Business Profile data comparing October 2025 to the previous month, 4 months into the engagement. Every interaction metric is up.
280 total interactions in a single month from the Google Business Profile alone. These are not impressions or reach figures. Each one is a person who saw SLT, chose to engage, and took a specific action, whether that was calling, visiting the website, or getting directions.
The Results
Four months of consistent GBP optimisation, local content, and a weekly review generation process that keeps the profile active and climbing. The momentum is building, not plateauing.
